The head of the Center for Digital Democracy has called for FCC Chairman Powell to recuse himself from the upcoming agency vote on media ownership rules, saying the Republican openly favors de-regulation.
Jeffrey Chester, executive director of The Center for Digital Democracy, stated in a letter to Powell that “we believe you and your staff have ultimately developed an ideologically driven record that does not reflect realities of today’s communications landscape.” The group is a nonprofit organization that says it wants to ensure that digital media systems serve the public interest.
Chester also blamed the previous Democratic administration for developing what he termed a “don’t ask, don’t tell” posture concerning media ownership.
