ABC News Radio said it has been honored with five 2004 National Headliner Awards for achievement in radio journalism.
Its reports, “Capture of Saddam Hussein” and “Space Shuttle Columbia Tragedy,” won first place for Coverage of a Breaking News Event and first place for Continuing Coverage of a Single News Event, respectively.
Additionally, the network won awards for: second place for “10 a.m. Information Network Newscast” for coverage of the Iraq War in the Best Newscast category; second place for “War with Iraq” in the War Coverage category; and correspondent Bob Schmidt and producer Hank Weinbloom share third place in the Feature or Human Interest category for “Tip of the Spear.”
The awards will be presented at a banquet ceremony at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on May 15.
