ABC Radio News Promises Expanded Operations

Will change its distribution arrangement to Skyview News Jan. 1

ABC Radio News will have a new distribution partner come Jan. 1, Skyview Networks. Its distribution agreement with Cumulus Media will end.

ABC says this new arrangement will allow the broadcaster to expand its radio operations to invest in new programming and distribute and market its own content to approximately 2,000 affiliates as well as digital services like iHeartRadio and Slacker Radio.

ABC News Radio is part of the The Disney/ABC Television Group. ABC News President James Goldston wrote to staff in a memo that was distributed to trade media this morning: “We’re taking these important steps now to work more closely with our terrific, longstanding station partners and better position us for digital audio growth in the future.” He called it a new era at ABC Radio.

Goldston, who was named president of ABC News in April, is responsible for ABC News programs on the ABC Television Network, ABC News Radio, ABC News.com and ABC News NOW. Steve Jones is VP and GM of ABC News Radio.

“Starting in January we’re going to expand our operations to invest in new programming, take control of distributing and marketing our content and deepen our affiliate relationships,” Goldston wrote.
