AccuWeather said a federal court has dismissed a $10 million defamation count filed against it by United Stations Radio Network Inc., part of a dispute over sales representation.
Other aspects of the case remain pending before the court, the company stated. USRN did not reply to a request for comment by deadline.
USRN had been AccuWeather’s sales rep. to radio until the weather programming supplier ended the relationship in December and switched to Westwood One.
“In late 2003, USRN filed a lawsuit against AccuWeather in connection with the termination,” AccuWeather stated. “The lawsuit included a claim that AccuWeather had made defamatory statements towards USRN when AccuWeather explained the change to Westwood One to its customers.
“On Jan. 13, 2004, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania dismissed that $10 million claim against AccuWeather by USRN.”
