Activate Chooses Symetrix For Control

Webcasting services company Activate has selected Symetrix equipment to manage audio signal levels for Activate’s digital content facility, called Activate Grand Central. Capable of managing and streaming thousands of simultaneous audio and video signals over the Internet, Activate Grand Central employs hundreds of Symetrix 422 Automatic Gain Control levelers to optimize signal levels. The system optimizes gain structure and does not introduce noise or compression artifacts.
Integrator Doyle Technology Consultants Inc helped Activate convert its historic 1914 building into an advanced digital content facility designed for Internet media, including equipment installation and integration.
Activate Grand Central features networking interfaces, allowing a single operator to manage and control hundreds of encode computers, source signal routing, and QC monitoring, including the input audio level of each stream.
“Since many of Activate’s incoming signals are satellite feeds, audio levels can be anything but uniform. In addition, audio-only enterprise Webcasts are auto-coupled telco signals, which frequently provide differing levels,” said Scott Whitcomb, director of broadcast engineering for Activate. ” With its implementation of the Symetrix processors, Activate addressed automation and preserved unity gain throughout the entire process -— acquisition through encoding.”
