Ad Council and Clear Channel Fight Childhood Obesity

‘We Can!’ PSAs to promote healthier lifestyles

Ad Council and Clear Channel Communications have announced a combined effort to combat childhood obesity through the “We Can!” education program, designed by the National Institutes of Health.

We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition) will feature a series of Web and radio public service announcements promoting healthy lifestyle choices. The campaign will air on 850 Clear Channel stations in 150 markets. PSAs are available in English and Spanish.

According to an announcement, figures from the Centers for Disease Control state the rate of childhood obesity has “tripled over the past three decades in some groups,” with approximately 30 percent of American children and teens as obese or overweight.

“[We] believe it is our responsibility to address some of the serious challenges facing the local communities in which we live and work by using our reach to promote action,” said Jessica King, director of community engagement for Clear Channel, in a press release. “We hope this campaign shines a light on those benefits and subtly reminds parents to take small steps to ensure a healthier future for their families.”

Ad Council has been developing campaigns on preventing childhood obesity with the federal government since 2005. Clear Channel Communications has reportedly been the largest single contributor of media time to the Ad Council for the past five years.
