Alpine Focuses Research on Emerging ‘In-Vehicle’ Tech

Opening center in San Jose this fall

The research arm of Alpine Electronics in the U.S. plans to open a new research center later this year to focus on opportunities for the in-vehicle cloud business and smartphone link services.

The center will be in the San Jose area at the southern end of San Francisco Bay. Alpine has a U.S. research base in Torrance, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County, that focuses on automotive electronics R&D. The new branch location will make it easier for Alpine to work with its development partners, according to Hidenori Hidaka, president, Alpine Electronics Research of America.

Alpine’s parent company, Alps Electric Co. Ltd., has an office in San Jose. The new Alpine Electronics Research center will be within the same building.

Alpine has R&D and manufacturing facilities in Japan, China, Europe and North America.
