Hawaii became the 50th state to complete its statewide Amber Alert plan to aid in the recovery of abducted children, according to the Department of Justice and state officials. Only four states had statewide Amber Alert plans in place at the end of 2001.
For the first time, all 50 states have statewide Amber Alert plans, creating a network of plans nationwide.
Amber Alert programs are credited with helping to save the lives of 192 children.
