American Public Media Rolls in Harris HD Radio Systems

Harris has delivered 13 digital broadcast transmitters.

Harris has delivered 13 digital broadcast transmitters to American Public Media for the public radio producer’s HD Radio broadcast initiative, targeted for completion by December.

The rollout also includes three HD Radio upgrades to existing Harris Z-Series analog transmitters and Harris FlexStar HD Radio broadcast products at each station for multicasting initiatives.

American Public Media produces programs including “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Marketplace” and “Saint Paul Sunday.”

APM will install the FlexStar multicasting platform (HDE-100 Importer, HDE-100 Exporter and HDX exciter) at its transmission facilities to accommodate its program distribution system originating from its St. Paul studios.

Ten American Public Media engineers have attended Harris training school. Doug Thompson is DOE. Mike Hendrickson is supervisor of the broadcast station network.
