... and Harris Details Several Public Radio Digital-Ready Projects

Harris said several member stations of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in the original digital transition markets have chosen it to supply digital-ready transmission gear. This is the first of three rounds of CPB funding for digital radio to members.
The supplier listed several CPB stations that have ordered ZHD FM Digital transmitters and NeuStar codec processors. They include KOUW in Seattle; WDNA in Miami; KCRW in Santa Monica, Calif.; WLRN in Miami; WAMU in Washington; WABE in Atlanta; and KALW in San Francisco. All are FMs.
“Additionally, KSCM(FM), San Mateo, Calif., has also chosen a Harris ZHD transmitter and ERI four-bay antenna; and WXEL(FM), West Palm Beach, Fla., has chosen to upgrade its current Z transmitter to a digital Z16HDc FM transmitter,” the company announced.
Thirteen CPB stations will receive the Harris ZHD FM Digital Transmitter and Dexstar HD Radio FM Exciter. Harris promotes the exciter’s ability to broadcast digital audio and services such as
supplementary audio channels and 5.1 surround sound, areas that public radio is exploring.
Twelve of the stations will obtain Harris NeuStar Audio Codec Processors.
