This is the daytime transmitter site for WYLL(AM) 1160 Chicago, just east of the Des Plaines river during the recent floods affecting the Midwest.
WYLL Chief Engineer Frank McCoy tells us: “The river crested about 10 feet above normal, closing roads in many Chicago suburbs. The doghouses in the photos were submerged deeply enough to prevent operations for only one day. WYLL has a separate night site and we are licensed to use the night facility as an auxiliary for day operations. Thus there was no interruption of broadcast operations.”
Frank adds: “I haven’t looked in the doghouses but my guess is that there is no permanent damage, just mud and smell.”
