...And Uphold $14,000 Emmis Indecency Fine

The second indecency case involved Emmis. The commission reaffirmed an earlier decision to fine Emmis-owned WKQX(FM), Chicago $14,000 for airing material it considers indecent on “Mancow’s Morning Madness.” Emmis had argued that the complaints being investigated did not include enough information to support an indecency charge. The FCC disagreed and upheld the earlier penalty, which stemmed from a program aired in March of 2000. The language in question concerned oral sex.
The commissioners voted 4-1 to keep the original $14,000 fine.
Commissioner Michael Copps disagreed with the decision, saying the fine was too low.
