Hyundai is offering integrated Android Auto on a production vehicle, the 2015 Sonata with navigation.
Hyundai claims it’s the first automaker to do so. Up until now, Android Auto has been available on new aftermarket Pioneer head units.
Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are designed with driver distraction in mind, we’ve reported. Once the driver plugs the smartphone into the USB port, a simplified version of the phone displays are shown on the dashboard screen. Voice commands or touchscreen commands are used.
Smartphone applications compatible with Android Auto include iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn, NPR, Stitcher, Skype and TextMe.
Those who already own a 2015 Sonata with navigation can get a free Android Auto software update from their dealer or soon through Hyundai’s consumer website.
HD Radio is standard on 2015 Sonatas equipped with the navigation system. Pandora is supported as well.
