Radio honchos will gather in a few days in San Diego. The latest radio revenue figures aren’t likely to make them feel any better. Revenue remains depressed, according to the latest industry numbers from the Radio Advertising Bureau.
Combined local and national ad sales for August fell 1% compared to the same month last year. Local was flat, national down again, this time by 5%. Year to date, revenue is up 2%.
Looking for the silver lining, RAB President/CEO Gary Fries said in a statement: “In breaking down the various markets we are seeing some very encouraging results. For example, in markets 31 through 100, August showed a local increase of 8%. This is a leading indicator of a strengthening local marketplace that is starting to radiate into some of the larger markets.”
