Apple iPhone 5c
While Apple highlighted the release of its iOS7 at a press event Tuesday, representatives didn’t say much about iTunes Radio.
All that executives in Cupertino said is that Apple iTunes Radio is included in the operating system update, which will be available in the U.S. as a free software update starting Sept. 18 for iPhone 4 and above, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch (fifth generation.)
In a press release, Apple describes the service as “a free Internet radio service featuring over 200 stations and an incredible catalog of music from the iTunes Store, combined with features only iTunes can deliver.”
IOS7 comes on the two new iPhone 5 models. The operating system has 200 new features, and has been engineered to take advantage of 64-bit processors, according to Apple. Executives highlighted the improved camera in iOS7 with improved image stability and a new Touch ID sensor, which detects a fingerprint to unlock the phone.
Apple executives said iPhone 5c is made of a polycarbonate body with a steel reinforced frame. The frame holds the internal components and doubles as the multiband antenna. The iPhone 5c comes in five colors and lists starting at $99 for the 16 GB model with a two-year contract from Apple and AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless. It’s available in the U.S. starting Sept. 20. Customers can preorder their iPhone 5c beginning Sept. 13.
The iPhone 5s features a new “co-processor” chip, which executives said makes the phone really fast. It features an anodized aluminum body with “diamond cut chamfered edges,” according to Apple and comes in three metallic finishes: gold, silver and space gray. It lists starting at $199 for the 16 GB model and will be available in the U.S. starting Sept. 20.
