APT Codecs Link Tokyo, Ōsaka

Asahi Broadcasting Corp. (ABC) recently invested in APT WorldNet Oslo codecs to link its facilities in Tokyo and Ōsaka.

Asahi Broadcasting Corp. (ABC) recently invested in APT WorldNet Oslo codecs to link its facilities in Tokyo and Osaka.

“Previous good experience with APT WorldNet codecs gave us faith in the company’s technology, so when we saw a need for a multiple-channel codec, we approached APT to see what was available,” said ABC Director Keishi Kandori. “Our initial meeting at NAB in 2006 led us to consider the WorldNet Oslo, which not only offered multiple-channel capability but also offered an audio-over-IP solution,” he said.

Osaka -based ABC installed WorldNet Oslos at Tokyo to Osaka to assure the delivery of four analog stereo programs to/from both sites, as well as one digital stereo program from Osaka to Tokyo over an STM-1 link.

“We are very pleased with the way the units are performing,” said Kandori. “They have been in operation for some months and we have recently ordered more audio cards to expand their capacity.”
