Arabsat Aims at Africa

New satellite to distribute ASBU programming

Satellite network specialist GlobeCast and satellite operator Arabsat have announced the availability of a package of Arabic programming from the Arab States Broadcasting Union for African countries.

Called the Global Arabic Bouquet, it is now available on the 5C satellite, Arabsat’s newest, launched in September of 2011.

The offerings consist of “premium” radio and TV programs that are free to recipients, according to a release.

ASBU Director General Salaheddine Maaoui said Arabsat 5C “will give the Arab broadcasters an opportunity to reach the Arab viewers in the African continent, where C band still plays an important role. This means that Arab broadcasters can now reach African viewers more easily.”
