Arbitron’s ratings proved the reach and reliability of radio during Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath with listenership up over 300% in many New Jersey radio markets. Arbitron has also found that the affected markets are seeing increased listenership, even weeks after the wake of the storm.
New Jersey Broadcasters Association President and CEO Paul Rotella again emphasized local radio as a lifeline for residents in New Jersey during the storm, highlighting the relationship New Jersey radio has with local communities.
Rotella added, “This was a perfect example of how only local radio can provide the critical information our audiences need to know in times of emergency. Especially in New Jersey, our citizens need to know much more detailed and salient information that only local broadcasters can provide.”
