Effective immediately, large broadcast groups will be able to buy nearly 50% of the voting stock of companies with a single majority shareholder without that purchase “counting” for the sake of ownership limits. The FCC has suspended the commission’s elimination of the single majority shareholder exemption under our broadcast and cable/multipoint distribution service attribution rules, pending resolution of the issues outlined in a recently adopted cable proceeding.
Commissioner Michael Copps objected, saying the suspension equaled the elimination of the rule.
