IVI stands for “in-vehicle infotainment,” and as anyone in radio knows, it’s a critical business growth area to watch.
The AVnu Alliance and the GENIVI Alliance have announced an agreement to align their groups and their members’ interests. Notable is the promotion of an Ethernet In-Vehicle Infotainment application.
The AVnu Alliance promotes use of the 802.11 Audio Video Bridging AV networking spec for bringing high-quality audio and video into vehicles and other markets. The GENIVI Alliance encourages open-source development of an in-vehicle infotainment platform.
A release explained: “For manufacturers planning to use AVnu-certified devices and the GENIVI platform in the automobile, this new joint agreement gives confidence that devices certified by the two alliances would interoperate and integrate seamlessly.”
GENIVI Vice President Matt Jones stated that the liaison is important to deployment of infotainment features for automakers and other suppliers aiming to serve the IVI market.
