AWRT Honors Melodie Virtue

Legal eagle is saluted for helping strengthen the women's organization

Melodie Virtue, an owner of law firm Garvey Schubert Barer, is the recipient of the 2008 Achievement Award from the American Women in Radio & Television.

The award honors an AWRT member who has helped strengthen the role of AWRT and contributed to the betterment of the media industry.

Virtue focuses her legal work on broadcast, Internet, copyright and emerging technologies law.

Virtue has served in various official roles with AWRT’s national organization and its Washington chapter. In 1992, she began her service at the national level and during her tenure directed many of AWRT’s committees including governance, finance and resource development. She led the organization as its chair in 2004. One of her achievements is the influence she helped AWRT to harness at the FCC, on the Hill and within the industry, according to the organization.

The 2008 Achievement Award will be presented at AWRT’s Women’s Media Forum in Washington on March 6.
