AWRT Releases 2006 Gracies

The American Women in Radio and Television named the 2006 winners of its annual Gracie Allen Awards, which recognize programming created for women, by women and about women.
National winners include “Born Into Brothels,” WNYC(AM-FM), Outstanding Feature, Soft News Radio; “Lia Knight for the Lia Knight Show,” Jones Radio Networks, Individual Achievement Award, Outstanding Program Host Radio; “Life’s Work With Lisa Belkin,” XM Satellite Radio, Outstanding Talk Show Radio; and “No Place for a Woman,” American Radioworks and Minnesota Public Radio, Outstanding Documentary-Long Length Format Radio.
Local, public and student award winners include “A Map of the Body,” Canadian Broadcasting Corp., Outstanding Special Program Radio; “Bloomberg Big Picture,” WBBR(AM-FM) Bloomberg Radio, Outstanding Series Radio; “C. Virginia Fields Profile,” WFUV(FM), Outstanding Feature-Soft News Radio; “Challenging the Ban on Online Liquor and Wine,” Justice Talking, Outstanding Talk Show Radio; “Midmorning,” Minnesota Public Radio News, Outstanding Interview Program Radio; and “North Carolina Voices: Understanding Poverty,” North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC(FM), Outstanding Radio Series.
