Backus Joins Commotion

New vice president global market development seeks to tap new opportunities

Commotion, a social and mobile media company and a subsidiary of Quincy, Ill.-based Broadcast Electronics, a provider of studio automation and RF systems, named Don Backus as its new vice president of global market development. In this role, he will focus on developing new markets for the company.

According to a release, Backus has 40 years of qualifying experience in both radio and advertising, and currently serves as a director on the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation. Most recently, Backus was a senior sales manager with ENCO Systems. 

According to Commotion’s Vice President of Studio Products Ray Miklius, Backus “understands the importance of keeping radio relevant and the need for stations to have a presence in social media to generate advertising revenue, listener interactivity.”

Commotion was established in 2011 and focuses on improving audience engagement and monetization opportunities.
