Basketball and football games for North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C., will be distributed to radio affiliates via IP.
Distribution contractor Bell Media Group of Raleigh is using a Barix Exstreamer 1000 to receive the original signal and encode it for distribution over the Internet. At eight individual NCCU Sports Network affiliates, a Barix Extreamer 100 receives the signal and decodes it. Barix’s Reflector Service control application was used to set up and maintain the network.
In between the StreamGuys IP host service receives the signal and distributes it to the eight affiliates.
Jay Bell, president and chief engineer for Bell Media Group, told Barix he’s taken advantage of the network capacity for side projects, particularly remote broadcasts.
