Bauer Media Audio plans to expand its presence in Ireland by acquiring regional radio station Red FM in Cork. The deal must pass regulatory approval.
Richard Dawkins, president of audio at Bauer Media Group, highlighted Red FM as “an important contributor to Cork’s media and cultural landscape.” Bauer said in the announcement that it is “committed to ensuring that Red FM continues to grow and develop” including its role as a source for music, entertainment and local news.
The current owner is Vienna Investments, majority shareholders of the station, with the Irish Times Group as a part-owner, having acquired a stake through its acquisition of the Irish Examiner and other titles in 2018.
Bauer has been growing its own operations in the country. “Under Bauer Media Audio leadership, Irish radio brands Today FM, Newstalk and SPIN have all increased their audience listenership, in addition to being recognized at the annual IMRO Radio Awards for their successes,” it said.
“The business has also invested to launch the GoLoud podcast network … and invested in audioXi, Ireland’s largest digital audio advertising exchange.”
Bauer Media Audio is a commercial radio and audio company active in nine European countries with brands like Absolute Radio, Today FM and Radio Norge.
