BBC OB Adopts DK Metering

The MSD600M++ meters will be used for high definition recording of sports and entertainment programs.

BBC Outside Broadcasts has installed DK-Technologies surround sound audio meters in two of its OB vehicles.

The MSD600M++ meters will be used for high definition recording of sports and entertainment programs. The monitors support all surround formats — 4.0, 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 — and features the recently launched StarFish display.

Both vehicles carry Calrec Sigma consoles, recently upgraded to incorporate Bluefin signal processing. Sigma with Bluefin provides 320 channel processing paths, configurable for up to 52 full 5.1 surround channels.

According to DK-Technologies Director Andy Page, with high definition and 5.1 surround sound increasingly becoming the norm within the broadcast community, the company envisages much greater demand for both the MSD600M++ and the StarFish display technology.

“Engineers working in the 5.1 domain do need a reliable method of monitoring these complex audio signals, and the fact that the MSD600M++ with StarFish is so easy to use is already making it a popular choice,” Page said.
