BBC’s Radio 5 Performs for Olympics

National broadcaster plans 24-hour coverage of London games

As part of what it is calling the first “digital Olympics,” the BBC will be providing extensive coverage of the London Olympic Games on BBC Radio 5, starting next month. It will also be launching Radio 5 Live Olympics Extra, a temporary digital station dedicated to the games.

Radio 5 Live Olympics Extra will start broadcasting on July 25. Between the two digital channels, “We will be there 24 hours a day for our listeners,” said Adrian Van Klaveren, controller, BBC Radio 5 Live.

BBC is also presenting 24 channels of HD video streaming of the games on its website, and extensive broadcast coverage on BBC 1 and BBC 3.
