BBG Names Pleffner CFO

New financial officer will use experience to advise Lobo, Board of Governors

Mary Catherine Pleffner has been named chief financial officer of the Broadcasting Board of Governors. She will start work in March.

Pleffner will be the principal budget officer and financial management officer for the BBG. She will work with Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Middle East Broadcasting Networks and Radio and TV Martí on budgetary concerns. She will also be responsible for directing the agency’s budgeting, accounting and financial management operations.

“The agency will draw heavily on her finance, program and business expertise to lead organizational change and achieve strategic goals and objectives,” said IBB Director Richard M. Lobo.

Pleffner will plan and coordinate the formulation, presentation, justification, and execution of the BBG’s total budget, as well as advise Lobo, the Board and others.

Pleffner currently is serving as director of the Department of Commerce’s Office of Administrative Services. She has previously served in the Department of Defense, and was chief financial officer of the Economic Development Administration within the Department of Commerce, where she also served as a deputy assistant secretary for management.
