In May, Broadcast Electronics (BE) conducted public AM demonstrations of the iBiquity HD Radio IBOC system in conjunction with the 71st convention of the Cámara Nacional de la Industria de Radio y Televisión (CIRT).
Pátzcuaro, Michoacán-based XEXL-AM conducted live AM HD Radio broadcasts on 690 kHz with an audience of 170 station owners and engineers gathering to listen to programming through a variety of HD Radio receivers.
“Most expressed surprise at the FM-like stereo audio quality and said they had not heard AM HD Radio outside carefully-controlled demonstrations at the NAB convention,” said John Schneider, Latin America sales manager for BE.
For the demonstration, BE field engineer Felipe Padilla adapted the four-year-old BE AM 2.5E transmitter used by XEXL-AM to operate with a BE ASi 10 HD Radio signal generator.
