BE: Smaller Markets Begin HD-R Conversions

Broadcast Electronics says smaller market stations are starting to convert their stations to HD Radio.

Broadcast Electronics says smaller market stations are starting to convert their stations to HD Radio.

This is one of the trends the manufacturer plans on discussing at the upcoming NAB Radio Show.

The company said it will demonstrate incremental, building-block steps to HD Radio adoption and financing options through GE Capital aimed at the needs of small-market broadcasters.

According to an online poll of managers who took part in BE’s HD Radio Workshop for Managers webinar in June, more than 80% of radio participants who responded were broadcasters in small- to mid-tier markets, and of these, the overwhelming majority — or 70% — were from markets 100+, stated the supplier.

Mid-tier market stations are also beginning to replace older IBOC equipment, according to BE.

BE also will participate in an HD Radio Technology Update session, part of the SBE Radio Engineering forum the Wednesday of the show, and will host breakfast at the AM/FM Transmitter Workshop on Friday, Sept. 28.
