Bergmann Named AIB Chairman

He will serve the organization for two years

Deutsche Welle Director of International Relations Klaus Bergmann was elected chairman of the executive committee of the Association for International Broadcasting.

Bergmann will lead executive committee and help AIB develop strategy, alongside the rest of the executive committee. Other members include: Mark Bunting, BBC Global News; Abubakar Jijiwa,Voice of Nigeria; John Maguire, Audiovisuel Extérieur de la France; Alexei Nikolov, Russia Today; and Lindsey Oliver, Bloomberg. As the association’s governance body, it supports and advises Chief Executive Simon Spanswick.

Bergmann first worked as a lawyer upon graduation from Germany’s Münster University and later worked for Radio Free Europe in Munich. In 1991, he became head of human resources at DW in Cologne, two years later taking charge of administration at DW in Berlin. He also served as the head of DW’s representative office in Brussels from 2009 to June 2012 before being named director of international relations.
