Not only has Berkeley Liberation Radio shut down after receiving a cease-and-desist order from the FCC for operating without a license and interfering with authorized stations; the pirate broadcaster is also facing eviction from its Oakland, Calif. location by June 30.
A message from someone calling himself Captain Fred on the site www.indybay.com says station members are looking for a new location and intend to keep broadcasting via the Internet.
The Berkeley station has been on the air for more than 10 years. Federal authorities raided and shut down a pirate station in Vermont, “Radio Free Brattleboro” earlier in the week.
