Big Boy “Crushed, Hurt” by Lawsuit

DJ turns to social media to react to Emmis litigation

Current Emmis Communications KPWR(FM), Los Angeles, DJ “Big Boy” took to social media to express his dismay over the broadcaster’s lawsuit against him.

In a lawsuit filed in a California Superior Court Emmis sought a preliminary and permanent injunction to prevent Kurt Alexander, whose air name is “Big Boy” on KPWR, from moving to competitor iHeartMedia in the same market. Emmis alleges the DJ has breached his contract by accepting a competing offer from iHeartMedia and rejecting a matching offer from Entercom.

On Twitter, “Big Boy,” said he’s “crushed” by the litigation and “When I can speak, I will speak to you.” In what is mostly a tribute to fans, he states: “I need y’all to survive and be happy. I’m hurt. I’ll be able to tell the real … soon.”

Emmis asserts it had no other choice than to protect itself and file the lawsuit. The broadcaster will seek a hearing on the preliminary injunction before Alexander’s employment agreement expires on Feb. 28.
