There’s lots of talk here at NAB in Las Vegas about the data and interactivity potential of digital radio.
Interactive broadcaster and syndicator Bluestreak Media and Ibiquity Digital will market Bluestreak’s 9,000 audio and text programs for radio broadcasters using HD Radio technology.
Bluestreak Media’s streaming audio content is being demo’ed at the NAB. Both companies say the demo illustrates the commercial and technical viability of Ibiquity’s Advanced Application Services, HD Broadcast Multimedia Language protocol and open-system interfaces for delivering wireless data.
The proponents want to use the digital radio signal to deliver wireless data to receivers for consumer applications including auto and home receivers and other devices such as PDAs and smart phones. These will receive news, sports, business, weather and entertainment information provided by Bluestreak.
“Formatting content for HD Radio transmission will enable radio stations to offer services far beyond traditional radio programs,” said John Reed, chief executive officer of Bluestreak Media.
