Eclectic music station KCRW(FM) in Santa Monica, Calif., recently launched a partnership with Universal Studios BluWave Audio to preserve its archive of live recordings.

According to CMJ, BluWave will help restore and repair more than 1,200 tracks, including live recordings made at the station over the past 20 years.

KCRW recently launched a fund-raising drive to help modernize and maintain its entire music library of more than 60,000 recordings.

The campaign, according to the station, will raise funds to covert the vinyl, reel-to-reel tapes, cassettes, DATs and CDs to high fidelity digital sound files, making it easier to access the recordings for use on air, online and for other projects.

The involvement of BluWave in the campaign came about when Tom Regal, director of audio restoration and preservation for the studio, heard about the campaign.
