BMI, rights manager for hundreds of thousands of songwriters, composers and music publishers, has announced a deal with Internet music services Spotify and turntable.fm for public performance rights of properties belonging to BMI clients.
In the announcement, BMI said it handles more than 6.5 million works for an estimated 475,000 clients. BMI also said it’s “paying more songwriters, composers and music publishers than ever before in its 71-year history.”
BMI SVP Corporate Strategy/Communications & New Media Richard Conlon said, “Both agreements represent yet another step in our long tradition of breaking new ground in licensing music for digital distribution.”
