Boeing Drops Internet Connexion

Boeing announced recently that it has decided to discontinue the “Connexion by Boeing” service, which provided high-speed satellite-based Internet service to aircraft.
“Over the last six years, we have invested substantial time, resources and technology in Connexion by Boeing,” said Chairman, President and CEO Jim McNerney. “Regrettably, the market for this service has not materialized as had been expected.”
Boeing said it would work with its customers to facilitate an orderly phaseout.
Passengers on U.S. domestic flights over land may have another option for in-flight Internet access in the future, the 800 MHz licenses air-ground service spectrum AC BidCo LLC and LiveTV, LLC won in Auction 65 may be used for Internet access as well as telephone calls.
