Broadcast Engineer Frank McLemore Dies

He passed away Saturday due to injuries from a car crash

Broadcast engineer Frank McLemore, 72, passed away this weekend. He died Saturday following complications from a car crash in Phenix City, Ala. His vehicle was struck by a stolen SUV involved in a high speed police chase, according to WTVM.com.

His wife, Erin, was hospitalized from the accident and is reported to be in serious condition at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

McLemore was a ham operator (N4TKT), former FCC agent/inspector, inspector for the Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program and owner of a two-way radio shop in Phenix City. According to the ABA newsletter, McLemore was a member of SBE Chapter 118 in Montgomery and held a CPBE certification. Radio World readers may also recognize his name from tech tips he submitted to the publication’s Workbench column.

Longtime friend and colleague Charlie Wooten said that McLemore had just recently attended the Dayton Hamvention, where they had visited.

In an email, Wooten wrote, “I was honored to know Frank, and his family is in my prayers. In the ham radio community, when a ham dies we call it ‘silent key,’ or SK. N4TKT SK.”
