Broadcasters Get Extension for Ownership Reports

FCC Pushes back deadline to file Form 323 to Dec. 2

On its own, the FCC has pushed back the deadline for commercial radio and television stations to file their biennial ownership reports with the commission. The reports were due Nov. 1, but the new deadline is Dec. 2.

Owners of full-power AM, FM, TV, LPTV and Class A stations must file and their information must be accurate as of Oct. 1.

The agency has delayed the deadline before, in 2009 and 2011.

This time, Media Bureau Chief Bill Lake said in the order “We are aware that some licensees and parent entities of multiple stations may be required to file numerous forms and the extra time is intended to permit adequate time to prepare such filings. We believe it is in the public interest to provide additional time to ensure that all filers provide the commission with accurate and reliable data on which the commission may rely for research and other purposes.”

Despite the extension, the FCC is still encouraging licensees to file their ownership reports (FCC Form 323) as early as possible.
