Univision Radio, through its annual St. Jude Promesa y Esperanza radiothon in 17 markets, brought in an astonishing $5.3 million in two days. That would generate a spit-take from a smiling Danny Thomas.
Clear Channel’s New Orleans station, WNOE(FM), raised over $230,000 in its annual St. Jude Radiothon.
Another Clear Channel outlet, KTEX(FM) in Mercedes, Texas, collected $43,000 for the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley in the third annual 10 Man Jam concert. Performers were local and regional artists.
WJR(AM) in Detroit, a Cumulus Media property, raised an eye-popping $1.3+ million for the Salvation Army in its 26th annual Salvation Army Bed & Bread Radiothon.
Pioneering radio station, CBS’s KDKA(AM), hosted the fifth annual Warmathon, a two-day event raising money for the Dollar Energy Fund. Almost $320,000 was raised for the fund which provides utility assistance for those in need in the Pittsburgh area.
CBS Radio’s Dallas kingpin, KVIL(FM) got involved in Sandy Hook efforts and collected more than 10,000 Hearts of Hope Valentine’s Day cards for the students of the Sandy Hook Elementary School. The Cox radio properties in Connecticut pitched in and collected over $162,000 for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
In Mission, Kan., Entercom’s KMBZ(FM) alerted listeners via an Amber Alert about a missing child. A listener saw the child and called police, who retrieved the boy.
