The FCC fined State Broadcasting Corporation, licensee of WMLT(AM), Dublin, Ga. $7,000 for failing to effectively enclose one of its towers. During a field inspection in 2002, a commission agent noticed one of the tower fences was broken.
State asked for the fine to be cancelled because it installed a new fence, gate and lock later that year and because of its participation in the state broadcaster’s association voluntary inspection program.
The agency stated in its decision that when the violation occurred, the station had not yet been inspected through the Georgia inspection program, so it was not exempt from the fine. The station has 30 days to pay the fine.
