The FCC cancelled an $8,000 fine against Smith Broadcasting of Santa Barbara, Calif., licensee of KEYT (AM), for not having operational EAS equipment.
In February of last year, a Los Angeles field agent noticed the station had no EAS equipment and cited KEYT. In its response, the station quoted agency rules giving facilities 60 days to operate without such equipment if its being repaired. The commission agreed that indeed, the station had not exceeded the allowed time limit and rescinded the penalty.
