Canada Eyes DAB/DMB Use in Tunnels

Radiating cables and indoor antenna systems considered.

Engineers at the Communications Research Centre in Ottawa, Canada are studying DAB/DMB broadcast delivery in subway tunnels.

The idea is to see how feasible it would be to offer underground the same services as those offered above ground in handheld devices.

Using computer simulations, A. Mouaki Benani of the CRC said in his IEEE presentation the Canadian engineers are studying two proposals for tunnel coverage: radiating cables and an indoor distributed antenna network.

I’ll have more in an upcoming issue of Radio World.
