Caroline Beasley Honored by Women in Media

Broadcaster named recipient of Frances Preston Trailblazer Award

The mentoring group Women in Media is honoring Beasley Broadcast Group EVP/CFO Caroline Beasley with its Trailblazer Award.

The actual honor is now called the Frances Preston Trailblazer Award, named after BMI’s longtime president and chief executive officer. Preston was one of the earliest members of the MIW Radio Group. When she passed away at 83 this June, MIW renamed the award for the BMI executive.

The Trailblazer Award is presented each year to a woman who has “blazed new trails” for women in the radio industry, according to MIW.

Caroline Beasley has played a major role in shaping the company founded in 1961 with one station by her father, Chairman and CEO George G. Beasley. Today, Beasley Broadcast Group Inc. owns and operates 43 stations.

A member of the NAB Board since 2005, Caroline Beasley is the immediate past chairman of the Radio board, has been the Radio board’s first and second vice-chairman and remains a member of the NAB Executive Committee. She’s also a trustee of the NAB Political Action Committee.

MIW Radio Group Spokesperson Heidi Raphael, who’s also Greater Media VP of Corporate Communications, cited Beasley’s leadership and commitment to the radio industry in the groups’ choice.

Beasley will be recognized on stage on Wednesday, Sept. 19 during the opening remarks and welcome keynote session at the 2012 Radio Show in Dallas.
