The Jack format is “losing steam in the largest markets,” says Wachovia Securities analyst Marci Ryvicker in her review of spring Arbitron ratings.
“CBS’ Jack-formatted stations lost share in all three markets, suggesting that listener curiosity has worn off. We would not be surprised to hear of several Jack-related format flips before the end of this year.”
Among her other findings, “Clear Channel gained share on a year-over-year basis in both New York and Los Angeles among adults 25-54 and 18-34, suggesting that ‘Less Is More’ has not lost momentum.” She expects Clear Channel stock to outperform the industry averages this year.
