CBS Debuts Last.fm Discover on Multicast Channels in Four Markets

In a cross-platform move, CBS Radio has launched “Last.fm Discover,” a streaming station that will also be heard on multicast HD Radio channels in several big markets.

Consumers can hear it on Last.fm, on mobile devices and on multicast channels via HD Radio receivers in New York on WWFS(FM) (102.7 HD2); Los Angeles on KCBS(FM) (93.1 HD2); Chicago on WXRT(FM) (93.1 HD3); and San Francisco on KITS(FM) (105.3 HD3).

Programming elements include live performances from the New York studio, interviews with breaking and established artists and special features that will guide listeners through new music, users comments, events, recommendations and news. CBS positions the station as “user-driven” because the playlist is based on Last.fm’s weekly charts, which are determined by that service’s listeners. CBS acquired Last.fm, a music social network, in 2007.

Rock band Muse, currently touring with U2, was featured Monday to celebrate the launch of the station.

Last.fm Discover is taking part in a Last.fm promotion to give listeners a chance to meet the band.
