CBS Radio recently partnered with Astralwerks to introduce “She Can DJ — America,” a nationwide talent search to find the country’s top female DJ/producer. After the success of similar endeavors in Australia and Europe, “She Can DJ” will get it a U.S. iteration of the program this July.
First, local competitions will be held in Boston, Charlotte, N.C., Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, San Diego and San Francisco after which 12 semi-finalists and one “wild-card competitor” will have the chance to vie for a doozy of a grand prize: a headlining tour and a recording contract with Astralwerks, the label of Fatboy Slim, Kraftwerk, Hot Chip, Phoenix, The Chemical Brothers and more.
“The United States is the hottest place on earth for dance music right now but the industry is largely male dominated,” Astralwerks General Manager Glenn Medlinger said. “We’re thrilled to be a part of a program that will help discover and develop top female talent in the dance music space.”
