CBS Radio News Revs Up Its Android App

Updates include latest news first, live-streaming breaking news features

CBS Radio News is releasing what the company characterizes as a “major” upgrade for its Android app on Google Play.

The upgrade will make it easier for listeners to get breaking news, political and entertainment stories and weather, according to the company.

The updated app delivers the latest newscast as soon as it starts. The free app continues to feature live-streaming breaking news, special events coverage and push-text messaging.

New features include on-demand weather forecasts, downloadable content that gives users their favorite programs offline and a car mode that provides simple audio controls while driving. Users who have already downloaded the app will get the new features as an update.

“Our listeners now have more ways and devices from which to hear CBS Radio News and our goal is to provide them with the best possible experience,” says CBS Radio News VP Harvey Nagler, who adds the updated app will give listeners the news “faster than ever.”

The CBS Radio News Android app, also available for Apple’s iOS, offers national and international news broadcasts every half-hour around the clock and features CBS Radio News reports on money, technology, health and politics. In addition to breaking news, the CBS Radio News app delivers audio versions of “60 Minutes,” “Face the Nation With Bob Schieffer,” the “CBS News Weekend Roundup” and CNET’s “The 404 Tech Minute.”
