The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has inducted the German team of Dieter Seitzer, Heinz Gerhäuser and Karlheinz Brandenburg into its Hall of Fame.
The scientists were honored on behalf of Fraunhofer IIS researchers and engineers who have developed the MP3 audio coding format since the early 1980s.
Seitzer, Gerhauser and Karlheinz accepted their awards from CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro in October.
Also among those inducted in October were Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft; and Amar Bose, founder and chairman of Bose Inc. Previous inductees include Ray Dolby, William Hewett and David Packard.
