CEA Extends Collaboration With ASHA

The Consumer Electronics Association extended its collaboration with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association on a public education campaign for safe listening when using PDAs.

CEA recommends consumers set their volume control at a low setting, and slowly increase the sound until they can hear it comfortably and clearly without distortion. Once a comfortable sound level has been established, set the dial and leave it there.

Headphones or earphones that are noise-canceling or sound-isolating also can be helpful, as listeners don’t have to raise the volume to compete with outside noises.

“Portable entertainment devices are among the most popular consumer electronics products for all age groups. Safe use of these devices is essential to their continued enjoyment,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA.
